3rd annual Latino outreach forum
The Minnesota Organization on Adolescent Pregnancy, Prevention and Parenting will host a forum directed to professionals who work with Latino youth. It will offer participants the opportunity to network with other service providers, share resources, understand a youth perspective, and find out how other communities in Minnesota incorporate youth development strategies into adolescent pregnancy prevention efforts.
When: Friday, August 20
Time: 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Cost: $25.00 for MOAPPP members and $35.00 for non-members

New research on effectiveness of peer education
Sex education is more effective at preventing teen pregnancy and delaying onset of sexual activity among girls ages 13 and 14 in Britain if the classes are taught by students ages 16 and 17 rather than by teachers, according to a study published in the July 24 issue of the Lancet. See full report

New survey finds gap between teen's perceived and actual knowledge on birth control
There is a gap between what teens think they know about contraception and protection and what they actually know, according to a new national survey of more than 500 15- to 17-year-olds by seventeen magazine and the Kaiser Family Foundation. The survey covers a variety of issues related to contraception
decision-making among adolescents, including how much they know about different methods and personal use among those who are sexually active. The survey also provides insight into whom teens rely on for information and what they think about emergency contraception. Read

ReCAPP forum on health education & behavior theory
The forum discussion covered the basics of health education and behavior theory and also discussed concrete ways of incorporating theory into specific programs and settings. The 14th annual festival will continue the tradition of food, families and fun. This celebration, organized by a volunteer
corps of fatherhood advocates from across the Twin Cities, offers free games,
entertainment and food for families from across Minnesota. Additionally,
attendees can browse the exhibit tables of many of Minnesota’s agencies and social
services organizations that provide services to fathers and families.
